About Us
Rural
Financial
Counselling
Tasmania is an incorporated body providing a free and confidential
service to rural families in all parts of Tasmania. The Organisation
has a Board of Management which
comprises representatives from various community groups and government
agencies and departments.
Rural Financial Counselling
Tasmania was established in 1987 by the Rural Youth Organisation of
Tasmania Inc. After conducting a community survey to determine need
for service, Rural Youth took up the dollar for dollar grant made
available under the Rural Counselling Program administered by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries
and Forestry - Australia.
At that time,
funding was approved for the employment of one counsellor for the
state. The service has expanded over the years to the present time and
currently two Rural Counsellors
and two part time administrative assistants are employed to service the
State.
In the past 10 years
over 800 Tasmanian rural families have been assisted by this free
service.
Rural
Financial Counselling
Service Tasmania (RFCS) is a unique
statewide service which aims to help
primary producers, fishing enterprises and small rural businesses in
rural
areas who may be experiencing financial hardship and need
support. The
service can provide an independent financial assessment, information
and
support for those making the difficult decisions. The service
recognises
that Tasmanian farmers from dairy to aquaculture, face a different set
of
issues than those in other industries. Issues that people outside
of the
industry often cannot understand. Rural Financial
Counselling Service
Tasmania is a confidential
service. All matters discussed with the
service are confidential and nothing is disclosed to outside agencies,
or
individuals without your permission. This service is free and the
counsellor
will visit at your home, or you can call in to the office.
